Clark and Madison is the creation LA based adventurers Dina Epstein and Michael Frosti Zernow. Born from their shared love of travel, Clark and Madison is a collection of bags and travel accessories designed and made by hand in Los Angeles. Our day spent together started at their home design studio in Santa Monica where the two walked me through their design process and told me the stories behind the materials used in their bags. The original idea for the line came from Dina’s grandmother’s bag that is hung above the sewing machine in their studio. After wearing her grandmother’s bag out from her travels, Dina and Frosti decided to create bags that were timeless in design but sturdy enough to withstand whatever adventure lies ahead. After a brief lunch and a short visit to the shop where the two source their leather, we headed downtown to the family owned workshop where their bags are sewn up and given their finishing touches. In addition to leather goods, Dina and Frosti have also created a line of one of a kind weekender bags using the unique materials sourced during their travels. From Navajo rugs to Turkish scarves to army tents to canvas salvaged from old sails, the materials used in their one of a kind products truly reflect the adventurous spirit behind Clark and Madison.
